I'm bored and very hot, and we're under a tornado watch. Fun, fun fun. Seriously.
Anyway, here's a bit of randomness that should fit this thread: I made a full medieval outfit last week. That is, finished it last week. Ankle-length, full skirt, poet shirt, and bodice. My avatar is the drawing I did for it. (fyi, I'm trying to be a costume designer. I didn't make this outfit's pattern, but I did do a costume drawing beforehand and it turned out that the two looked very similar. ) Oh yes, I made a pair of bracers too, but those were for my brother Dieki Kondrael (username), not me.

Anyone else here like to sew/ wear medieval outfits on a regular basis?

    Your story sounds interesting, Pip.

Hallelujah for Medieval clothing! Your costume sounds beautiful, Amanda K.! I used to dress up a lot with Medieval-style clothing, but there's rarely any time for that nowadays. I do have a black cloak (sloppily made because I did it myself) that I wear a lot in winter.

    Thank you!

I used to dress up in medieval clothing as well. Now, though, I do not. Instead, such clothing is my normal attire. (I have to do something with the things I make for practice! ) Except, I do not have a cloak. Well, I do, in a manner of speaking. But it's not a real cloak, thin and impractical. (also needs to be shortened... dragging two inches on the floor, it is a tripping hazard) If  you can wear your cloak, you're doing good!

I wonder if anyone would trade books for clothing... hmmmm! (not like I would have the time or ability to make such clothes, but still, it's an idea...)

LOL. That's funny. But the librarian should be wearing a black cloak instead of a ski mask, scarier.

haha... cute. But have you heard of those folks who find books that are YEARS overdue? That's scary!

    This library book is 42

    I admit that it's mine

    Should I turn it in
    Or hide it again?

I have heard of books that were 50 years over due or something. I think the library waved all fines because they were honest enough to actually return it.

Oooh, I like this thread. Amanda, I would most definitely swap books for clothes, depending on if I have books that you want. I wish I could dress in medieval clothes all the time but I don't sew so I make do by wearing normal clothes in a medieval style and topping them off with a cloak. (I have two.)

At our library the fines accumulate on your account, not on individual books. So a book that's lost for months will accumulate fines that you have to pay periodically or they won't let you check out any more.

lol, that's what I do to some extent. Though I do wear ankle length skirts all the time, I have to improvise a tunic top with a belted shirt, because it seems to be always too hot to wear my poet shirt! Not to mention the impracticality of a cloak when it's 90 degrees... ::sigh:: Can't wait for winter.
Um, are you suggesting that me and you swap clothes for books, Janin?

Our library doesn't have fines. It also doesn't have many books. (I do not know if those two facts are related...)

Haha. When I was in Chattanooga at harp camp it was sooo hot, they kept the air conditioner really really cold in the studio. So I'd be sitting there, at 9:00 AM freezing! Fortunately, I'd dealt with this the previous year, so I'd remembered to bring my capes. They saved the day. Because when I stepped outside, where ice turned to steam, I could just let it trail behind me and I didn't get over heated. It was quite a challenge, wearing a cape with my summer cloths though.
