Okay, people, don't fly off the handle, but in case you haven't heard, Disney seems to be dropping VDT. This does not mean that the film will not be made!!! Walden still has the rights and if this story is true, they will be able to pick any studio they like.
Please don't post rants against Disney. We don't even know if this story is true. There are a few errors in the announcement, and I cannot find a press release anywhere.

Hmmm. Interesting. I guess we shall just have to wait and see.

I saw that story on NarniaWeb, but our computer is acting up so I can't read it. Did they give a reason for Disney dropping Narnia?

No. In fact, there hasn't been anything truly official from Disney about this.

I hope they don't!, or at least if they do Waldon picks it up.

Walden is still committed to doing it, and now they are looking for a new partner.

Wikipedia says Walden might do it with Fox around Christmastime 2010. The budget looks to be about $140,000,000. Here's the link:

Fox has picked it up! Here's the story on NarniaWeb: http://www.narniaweb.com/news.asp?id=2110&dl=22545350
The studios are still working on the rights details, but we know that Michael Apted, Georgie Henley, Skandar Keynes, Ben Barnes, and Will Poulter are set to work there. Walden still has the rights to the movie. The hope is to begin shooting end of summer for a holiday 2010 release. The budget is $140 million.
Seems to me that Walden has found a partner who will bow to their wishes. The release date, budget, and director were all chosen by Walden, and the screenwriter who wrote the most recent draft has pleased both studios.
Get out the party props and let's celebrate!

There has been some angst over the fact that Fox is tossing VDT to the branch that handled Eragon. I'm just going to say that I'm not worried. Eragon as a book wasn't too great, IMHO, and that would definitely harm a movie. VDT is a great book, quite cinematic, and Walden is on-board to make sure creative decisions get made properly, unlike Eragon, which had Christopher Paolini basically handing the reigns over to the Fox execs. There's a difference between a young author with his eyes on fame, and a production team that includes Douglas Gresham, who doesn't seem to me the type of person to go after that stuff.

We'll just have to see...

........oh dear, Those People, who made Eragon??? *didn't like the movie nearly as much as the book, and is being very meek and quiet here...* Let's hope Mr. Gresham can whip 'em into shape. Personally I'm eager to see how someone other than Disney will handle a Narnia movie.

Big news!!!
NarniaWeb has posted that the logo for VDT has been unveiled! For anybody who was worried that the rights transfer would result in a new logo, fear not! http://www.narniaweb.com/news.asp?id=2185&dl=23346725
