I know they the have the book tips page on the website but I want to know how everyone cares for there books and how you keep them in the best condition possible. What are some book care tips you have.

"Don't lend them to younger siblings without first securing some collateral" is my only tip. Ignore it at your peril.

Really though, my siblings have gotten a lot better about that and I'm usually too happy that they're actually READING ONE OF MY BOOKS! to mind. Although they still get lectures if they bend the covers or tear pages. My books are mostly secondhand, so they aren't in pristine condition...I like them like that, they feel more accessible and I'm not always worrying about how they look.

...all that to say, I have no advice...

I have to be careful about lending mine to my dad.  He always folds over the corners of the pages instead of using bookmarks.  I end up with ugly creases in my beautiful books!  Unfortunately, it's hard to lecture your dad.  I've tried putting a bookmark in the book before giving it to him, but then I've had a couple bookmarks lost or ruined.

I can't lend books to my little brother because instead of using a bookmark he just flips the book over and leaves on a table with the book spread apart open.

Ooh, collateral. That's a good idea. I got two books once that were used, but still in pretty good condition and by the time all my siblings were done with them the dust jackets were in tatters. I was furious, and no one could figure out why. I also insist on not turning books upside down to hold your place, and everyone thinks I'm outrageous about that too.

Don't leave a book in the bathroom either. Shower humidity is not good.

I did that once, and never did it again!

Uh oh! I guess I'd better rescue that book I borrowed from my mom, I left it in the bathroom (and I always end up steaming the whole bathroom). Thanks for the tip!

The only tip I have is don't eat and read at the same time, you might spill something.
This one time I spilled a drink on a library book... eating and reading, bad combination...
Oh, and when using a recipe from a cook book, you might want to be extra careful, because you have a better chance of spilling something on it.

Actually, I eat and read all the time.  Probably not the smartest idea, I know, but I like the combination.  :)

My sister puts tape on the spine, front and back cover, I think. It prevents cracks that show up in paperbacks.
