Guidelines
The goal is to read as many pages as you can during the summer.
Important! Make sure that you join the Read-a-Thon before the cut-off on August 15th. After August 15th, we will not be accepting any new entries. If you are already in the Read-a-Thon, you can keep recording your books read, but nobody new will be able to join.
Read a book, then post the title, author, and number of pages in the 2008 Summer Read-a-Thon thread. Then at the bottom of your post, keep a running total of pages you’ve read so far. Here's a sample:
Redwall, by Brian Jacques. 333 pages.
Lord Brocktree, by Brian Jacques. 345 pages.
Running total: 678 pages
The Read-a-Thon starts on June 1st, 2008 and ends August 31st, 2008. All the books that you post must be read in the time between those two dates. This thread will be opened on June 1st, 2008.
What counts as a page?
Any book that is in or above your approximate reading level counts toward the number of pages read. We're not going to be super strict on this, but try to stay near your reading level.
Books below your reading level do count if read aloud to others. So if you read a picture book to a younger sibling, you can count those pages!
Insights
Last year, most of the participants began to give their thoughts on the books that they had completed as they were listing them. This is fine, in fact, we encourage that you do this. Tell everybody that the last book you read was great, and that they need to read it! Also, don't forget that you can discuss the book in greater detail by starting a thread about it on the Incredibooks forum.
The Winners
After August 31st, we will post a list of participants and the number of pages that they read during the Read-a-Thon. Then we'll announce the winners of the prizes!
The prizes consist of four books. Beyond the Reflection's Edge by Bryan Davis, DragonSpell by Donita K. Paul, Isle of Fire by Wayne Thomas Batson (signed by the author!), and Raising Dragons by Bryan Davis.
The person who reads the most pages will receive their choice of the prizes. We will then randomly choose from the participants for the other prizes. Incredibooks reviewers and their families cannot win prizes, so in the event that one of them reads the most pages, we will pick the person who has read the next most.
Post your questions about the Read-a-Thon in the Read-a-Thon questions thread.
