Pip here again; since this thread is also for venting about cheesy books, I was under the impression that I was getting the real, classic version of Ben-Hur from PBS.com...well, the other day there was a tiny book that came, and I wondered furiously as I opened it because all the books I am expecting are novels. And guess what it was? "Ben-Hur: a Modern Adaption".
*que the screaming and stomping and general pandemonium*
Needless to say, I marched upstairs and posted that dinky little papercover right back into the system.

Ooh, yeah! I read that one in a day. The Summer of the Monkeys got my dad crying for the beauty of it; so did Mama's Bank Account, come to think of it! Loverly books.

I just finished it, and frankly, I was disappointed. I'm not sure if it was just my mood, as I was really tired when I read most of it. It seemed to move sorta slow, and everyone seemed to repeat the same things over and over again. He didn't manage to really surprise me with anything, though I suppose that's the result of too much thinking on my part. Also, LB is really bad with writing dialogue, particularly love scenes.

However, Rulalin pleased me greatly. I was so happy with the way LB did him, and other's reactions. LB also achieved his purpose in writing these books: he did manage to make me long for the time of restoration and renewal.

All in all, it wraps up the series satisfactorily, and if I had been in a better mood reading it, I think I would have enjoyed it more. Oh well.

Yes it is REALLY maddening but don't worry he doesn't end the book abruptly.

Yes! All four previous books have ended abruptly. Like, in the middle of a scene, when you most desperately would like to find out what's next!! It's maddening!!

And, yes, Alyosha, All My Holy Mountain is the last book in the series. It'll be interesting to see if Graham can end the series without being abrupt.

I actually liked Beyond the Summerland quite a lot while I was reading it--enough to read the second book, anyway--though afterwards I was not quite so fond of it. I persevered with the series until halfway through book 3, when I realised that I really didn't care what happened to any of the characters, and also I kept getting everyone's names confused. Which is my own fault I suppose.

Is All My Holy Mountain the last book, or are there going to be more? My library doesn't have them, otherwise I might take another stab at it...
