We now know that Peter Jackson is producing, but not directing. Guillermo del Toro will be directing both films. Recent news is that they have decided to make both films based on The Hobbit, instead of one on The Hobbit and the other on various bits to bridge the two. <blockquote>“We’ve decided to have The Hobbit span the two movies, including the White Council and the comings and goings of Gandalf to Dol Guldur,” says Del Toro. “We decided it would be a mistake to try to cram everything into one movie,” adds Jackson. “The essential brief was to do The Hobbit, and it allows us to make The Hobbit in a little more style, if you like, of the [LOTR] trilogy.” </blockquote> Sounds good to me! I was a bit wary of the "Bridge Film" idea. By the way, LOTR-wise, has anybody seen The Hunt for Gollum? It's a fan film made for about $5,000, based on Aragorn's hunt for Gollum. I hadn't read the book inna long while, but by itself it was a good movie. Minus several confusing parts, hideous costumes near the end and...*ahem*...THAT PART, it was a verra good movie. I think I like LWW better, just because it's special and all three of mah sisters and I watched it all together, but PC was assuredly a good movie. How did you loik it, Sarah? I'll do that whenever our copy gets here. Reep didn't seem to get the same respect he does in the book, and the knightly manner he has is present far less in the movie. Also, I thought they almost tried too hard to make him funny sometimes. Was that the single disc one? *spoilers, sort of* Just watched the deleted scenes (three cheers for Youtube!). They were ok. I can see why most of them were cut. The nursery one was...hmm. It didn't make much sense anyhow since Peter should have known about Miraz's son already... I'm really glad they cut out the dryad scene, though I liked it--they already stole the "what happens if we die here?" conversation from LB, and was there something else too? can't remember. I would have preferred the archery scene to The Scene We Do Not Speak Of, it's not really flirting at all, just Susan being a jerk. Yay for book lines in the Choosing the Marshalls scene! (and the fact that Caspian and Peter are on better terms again) The leaving-for-the-NR bit was good too. So I got Caspian, waltzed home, and told my family to come watch Narnia with me. They naturally assumed it was LWW, until we got to the DVD menu and someone went, "Wait a minute. That's Miraz's castle!" At that point I just cracked up laughing and explained.
