yuck! sorry, not much into lacy nor yellowish.
Today, my dad and I went into a fireplace store, and they had the most beautiful fireplace I wanted for my dream library!!! It was big! Had stone around, and a wooden mantle, kinda like little house on the prairire. It was beautiful...sigh...Oh, and I liked the dark wood better.

I don't like vacuuming, Jordan. :p

Curtains! Yes! Yellow (gold/musty) curtains, very long ones with a lacy black over curtain.

*gasp* Cool!
I just realized that to have a balcony, I'd haveta have a library on the second floor instead of on the first...so now there's a spiral staircase from the library to the room (probably bedroom) that has the balcony! And I forgot a very important detail: all around the library, in fact, all around the castle, there will be lazy, friendly poufie cats!!!!! Tons and tons of reading companions. Just picture a cold winter night and candlight inside me huge library, and a good book with a cat to curl up with, and bright colors to chase away winter's drabness! Pure heaven, peoples!

Ooh! Strike my idea for the secret passage on the second floor to the third. Now it's a secret slide from floor 3 to floor 2!

Ooh yes, I am formulating me plan!!!
It's going to be on the first floor of me castle. It's going to have sliding ladders, literate signs (Careful, or you'll end up in my novel), chairs taht are plushy and you can sink into them, thick aquamarine carpet perhaps, lotsa rugs over polished cedar floors, a balcony with a weatherproof couch for reading outside in the sun, lacy curtains and long draperies, cedar or oaken bookshelves up to the stone ceiling, artsy-looking lamps, CD players and tons of CDs, chocolate and coffee galore, bunches of paper and working pens for writing, candles, bead drapes hanging over the doorway (there's no door, I can run in whenever) and a secret doorway behind a tapestry or something to my dungeon. Technically, books are going to be all over the place, not just in the library, and essential things like a suit of armor, spiral staircase one can slide down and a deep bathtub with a pillow for resting and rwading will be spread all throughout me castle! (You see, wi. my kinda decorating, I have to have a castle to hold all my ideas!)

Okay my dream room is a combination of all of yours!(You guys have such great ideas! )
We'll start with the floor, it would have to be something very comfy and plushy, I don't care much what color.
The ceiling would be full of sky lights, to let in light and to let me see the stars at night.
There would be a little (don't want the books to catch on fire!) fireplace for the wintertime.
The walls would be COVERED with books. No paintings or anything.
A second level, with a spirial staircase, full of my favorite books, and a 'secret' passageway into a little out door room with a hammock and flowers (-cough- sunflowers) and vines.
No cd books (cause cd books aren't books!) There would be nice lamps, and huge comfy, chairs that you could get lost in. The library would have a key that only I would have (and maybe one other person..Best friend?, but it would be a cool rustic old key.

Maybe a secret passage or a secret compartment in the desk or something.

Is the secret compartment in the desk for your favorite books that you wouldn't let anyone else touch, 'cause you like them so much?

I prefer carpet to wood floor, for the sole reason that carpet is more comfortable for grabbing a book at random, plopping on the floor, and reading.

I prefer wood floors. A skylight would be cool. Hmm, quotes painted on the ceiling might work. And I forgot to mention the surround sound earlier.

That is cool, Alyosha! Spirals on the floor but they might be hard to read on the ceiling. *replaces some of the paintings with a placks (sp) of quotes* I'll cover the ceiling with my favorite words. In black calligraphy; which will be marvelously difficult to paint.

They have amazing pictures in Hobby Lobby, BTW. Makes me wish I didn't have to share a office (turned bedroom) with three siblings. A little wall and floor space would be nice. If I had somewhere to start a collection I'd start now.

But writing in black all over my ceiling will mean I'll have to change the wall and ceiling color to musty yellow which won't work with my white carpet. A black carpet might be too depressing. But I could do it anyway, it might work with my black and white checkered furniture and wood
coffee table.

Maybe wood floors? I do prefer wood over carpet for a library...

*has really gaudy tastes* Maybe I should expand a little and have two living rooms so people won't need to see someone after they visit.

[edit]A skylight sounds nice but would get in the way of my writing... For a desk I want one of those really huge and expensive ones with dozens and dozens of cubby holes. But it will go in my bedroom and match my really expensive bed with a headboard made of cubby holes and built in underbed storage. *wiggles eyebrows*

Big room with 12 foot ceilings. Floor to ceiling shelves with a rolling ladders attached to reach to highest books. Plenty of posters and pics of my favorite authors. Behind Sigmund Brouwer's picture will be a lever to pull back a shelf revealing the secret passageway to the pantry on the first floor. Surround sound stereo system that connects wirelessly to my iPod. Not to mention windows, skylights, desk, and the books that will be there...

You could dream about something like this all day. *sigh*

What is left to say?

I love sliding ladders.

And large, comfortable chairs.

And generous selections of music.

And I shall put my books in the Dewey Decimal System.

edit--
(like a black and white painting of a sewer entrance)

Bwahaha--I need one of those!

edit again--Oh, finally thought of something. My public library has book quotes painted on the walls above the shelves--things like "You see, I don't believe that libraries should be drab places where people sit in silence, and that's been the main reason for our policy of employing wild animals as librarians." Of course that would frustrate the whole bookshelves-that-reach-the-ceiling scheme but I love that idea too much to part with it. Mayhap I shall print C.S. Lewis quotes in spirals on the ceiling.
